Flaxen
Although flaxen is considered a dilution gene or set of genes, in that
it dilutes the manes and tails of red (chestnut) horses to
near-white (flaxen), it is not known how it is inherited. It's
not believed to have any effect on black pigment, nor on body color.
The American Belgian type of horse is flaxen. Their body
colors range from this typical "blond" chestnut (or "sorrel") to
deep red chestnut.
Phara Farm in California breeds some stunning flaxen chestnut Arabian
horses, most of them far darker shades than the Belgian in
the photo above:
